• Documents		1860 US Census for Copiah Co., Mississippi, USA This page of the Census for Copiah Co., Mississippi shows a family headed by Martha Harrell who were all born in North Carolina. The accompanying Slave Schedule shows that Martha owned one slave - a 13 year old female. The Marriage Records (see Source 6) show that Harriett Harrel married George Lynch in 1866. The 1870 Census shows George Lynch and his wife Harriett and Harriet is 22 years old and says she was born in South Carolina. So there’s a good likelihood that the 13 female slave owned by Martha Harrell in 1860 is the Harriett Harrel who married George Lynch in 1866.

On the assumption that the slave took her owner’s name on emancipation and became Harrell, this then is quite likely the Harriet Harrell who married George Lynch in 1866 (see Source 7). It seems like the family had recently moved from North Carolina to Mississippi (the 1 year old child in the household was born in North Carolina). This ties in with Harriet’s statements in the 1910 and 1930 Census that she was born in North Carolina, and that her parents were born in North Carolina. In 1870 she said she was born in South Carolina, and in 1880 and 1900 she said she was born in Mississippi.

And next but one family down page is that of Hampton Tillman, his wife Eliza who is sister of George Lynch, and their 5 children

George is probably, but not proven, the son of Sarah Lynch.
  		1900 US Census for Copiah Co., Mississippi, USA 1900 Census for Mt Hope Voting Precinct shows Harriet Lynch living with her children Tom, Jim and Mattie. In this same census, her husband George has responded that he is widowed, and is living alone in Beat 3 of Copiah Co., Mississippi.
  		1910 Census for Copiah Co., Mississippi, USA 1910 Census for Beat 4 (part of) shows John Lynch living with his wife Mary and their 5 children - Oliver, Johnnie, Wiley, Andrew and Mattie. Also living with them is Harriet Lynch - John’s mother. Of interest is that later in the census period, Wiley is living with his grandfather Georgy Lynch at a different location.
  		1930 US Census for Copiah Co., Mississippi, USA 1930 Census of Beat 1 West Rail Road shows Barney Lewis with his wife Ida (Lynch) their 2 youngest children, and Harriet Lynch - Ida’s mother.

The 1860 Slave Census shows that Martha Harroll owned 1 slave - a 13 year old Female so it seems a good likelihood that the 13 year old Slave is this Harriett Harrell who married George Lynch in 1866.
